Changing the Desktop
Jul. 25th, 2018 04:23 pmFor quite a few years I used Linux Mint KDE edition on my desktop. when that died, I moved over to an old, loud and beat up HP laptop, sticking with the same distro. But the Linux Mint KDE edition is no more.
So a week ago I replaced it with Kubuntu. I really wish I didn’t have to change, but if I wanted the current KDE, it would have come via Kubuntu anyway.
I’ve been using Linux since 2000, jumping from one distro to the other until settling on Mint. I love tinkering, once I decided to ditch Windows once and for all.
The desktop is pretty dang good, but I had a bit of trouble getting my wireless set up. The module with the driver was not installed. After a fair bit of Internet searches, the solution was fairly simple for the immediate term. A package with the driver was available on Kubuntu backports. I downloaded it and installed it manually. It only works with Wicd-client, written in python.
I think I'll learn python.
